Poker Run – KGMU – June 10, 2023

Coming this June:  an  Aviation Poker Run sponsored by the Upstate Aviation Club!

Fly to five airports, collecting a single playing card at each airport.

Anyone on the airplane for the trip, whether pilot or passenger, can play.

The player with the best poker hand wins two free lunches at the Runway Café!

The tentative route will be:

Register and start of flight:     GMU – Greenville Municipal, SC, at the Runway Café, on south ramp

card 1  –  TOC – Toccoa Ga

card 2  –  6J4 – Saluda SC

card 3  –  35A – Union SC

card 4  –  FQD – Rutherfordton, NC

card 5  –  GMU – Greenville Municipal, SC, at the Runway Café, on the south ramp; turn in your poker hand.

According to ForeFlight, this is a total of 267nm of flying.

Schedule for the day:

1.  Registration (free) starts at 9:30am through 11:00am, giving plenty of time for airplanes flying in from other airports to arrive early enough at GMU.

2.  Take off any time thereafter.

3.  “Fly safe!”

4.  Land at each airport, where the FBO will deal a single random card (face down) to each participant.

5.  Land back at GMU, get your 5th card, and turn in your hand (5 cards) by 2:30.

It is the pilot’s responsibility to:
  (a) assure enough fuel (and refuel if need be), and
  (b) begin the Poker Run early enough to return prior to the 2:30 deadline.

Note that each airport will have a different deck.  Each player’s five cards must include one card from each of the five decks.

The winning poker hand wins a pair of free lunches at Runway Café.

Scheduled date for the poker run is Saturday, May 20th.

“VFR conditions” – will be determined using ForeFlight TAF and MOS forecasts and SkewTLogPro for each of the five airports.  Minimum ceiling forecast for the route of flight from 9:30am through 2:30pm must be 4,500 feet or better.
